Your Business Success Path

Whether you're starting a new business or have been in business for years, it's always good to have a sense of where you're at in your business.  When starting out, you typically start at Stage 1 and then move along the stages. But even for the seasoned entrepreneur, it's always good to have a look into each of these stages in your business to see where you can use some improvement.

Stage 1.  Design Your Vision.

Your first step is to get really clear about the goals of your business.  What do you offer?  Who do you serve?  What does your day-to-day workday look like?  Do you have a team?  Those are just a few questions to ask yourself.

Remember, without a clear vision, you really don't know where you're going, which leads to confusion and overwhelm and these usually lead into to that infamous "shiny object syndrome"!

Stage 2.  Plan Your Strategy

Once you know where you're going, your next step is to create a map to get you there.  This stage is broken down into 5 steps:

  1. Create a plan to accomplish your goals
  2. Schedule those actions into your calendar
  3. Take action daily to get you closer to your goals
  4. Review your plan consistently to make sure you're on track (life happens & plans change)
  5. Go back to Step #2

Yes, this is a constant cycle... you're always in plan, do, review mode!

Stage 3.  Implement Your Systems

This is where you look into each area of your business and implement the systems and tools needed to be run these areas more efficiently.  This is usually the most overwhelming stage so break it down into different projects and get really clear on your priorities.

Tackle ONE project at the time!

Some questions to ask:

  • Where can I automate my workflow?
  • What tools do I already have in place?  Do they need improvement?
  • Which systems or tools do I need to acquire?  Does it require training?
  • Where can I outsource? (Stage 4)

Stage 4.  Build Your Team

Each business is different.  For some it may just take a small team and for others it takes a big team.  This is one of the things you want to think about in Stage 1 when you're designing your vision.

For those of you that are solopreneurs, look at the things you love doing and are good at - do those things.  For everything else, get help.  You don't need to hire someone full time.  Consider hiring a Virtual Assistant or Online Business Manager.  You can just hire them to complete a specific project or you can hire them for a couple of hours a week - that's entirely up to you.  Do your research, there are so many on the market these days and they each have their niche & specialty.

Stage 5.  Scale Your Business

Now that you have your business running smoothly, it's time to step back and take a look at your business from the outside in to see where you can improve.  Can you be more efficient?  Can you spike up sales?  Can you add more products or services? ...

Where are you in Your Success Path in your business?  Maybe you're just starting out and haven't even started with Step #1 or you've been at it for a while and you're at Step #5 but you can use some improvement in some of the stages?
